Fall Program
Vision of GIT Education in New Mexico
NMGIC Fall Meeting
Albuquerque, NM
Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22
UNM Science & Technology Park
801 University Blvd SE
The NMGIC WORKSHOP/FALL MEETING will be held November 21 and 22, on the topic
of GIS education. This will be an opportunity for NMGIC to fill its role as
education consultants, and give input as to what the GIT program at UNM
could look like. The new UNM Dean of Arts and Sciences, Reed Dasenbrock, will
attend and make an overview presentation, and then would like to hear about
what kind of information the program should have, and what NMGIC folks look for
in graduates. There will also be discussion on the URISA National Certification
status.

Thursday, November 21
The NMGIC Fall 2002 Meeting will include a Thursday afternoon pre-meeting
facilitated forum discussing GIT education at UNM.
A panel consisting of New Mexico GIS professionals will discuss the UNM GIT program
with the UNM Dean of Arts and Sciences, as well as the UNM GIScience Task
Force Committee. The panel will focus on the Task Force Report (posted on
the NMGIC webpage), and on what skills, etc. GIT professionals look for in future
graduates (i.e., job applicants) of UNM GIScience. It is open to everyone,
but it is specifically focused on UNM, while the Friday meeting will cover GIT Education
throughout NM.
