Accurate information is the key to making good decisions; thorough investigation and organization of data leads to success. These are two of the fundamental principles of the information age. At the very heart of these tenets is resourcefulness.

I have five years successful experience conducting research of available data for land use and natural resource planning. At the East Baton Rouge Parish Planning Commission EBRPPC I was charged with research supporting the development of a geographic information system GIS database, and implemented a methodology that allowed the sequence of re-subdivisions to be tracked from beginning to end. I was honored for my service in the EBRPPC Year 2000 Annual Report.

Currently I am a permanent employee of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources within the Leasing Section of the Office of Mineral Resources. My section is charged with the development and maintenance of a G.I.S. data base for all of the mineral leases within the state of Louisiana. Considering the state’s mineral history and the recent effects of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the importance of this task cannot be overstated. To wit, Louisiana supplied 30% of this nation’s oil and natural gas supply previous to these natural disasters and now production has been reduced by approximately 80%. Together with the Secretary of Natural Resources Scott Angelle we are working diligently on stream-lining the processing of permits so that exploration of potential mineral rich areas can begin as soon as possible. In light of this urgent need, I am honored with the task of expediently assuring the spatial accuracy of all new and old mineral leases.

In addition, I coordinated a three-year project researching all oil and gas pipelines permitted within the coastal zone by the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources - Coastal Management Division since 1980. To date, this GIS data base is considered to be the most complete and accurate among those similar and is used by state and federal agencies alike. However, its use is restricted to those approved by the Department of Homeland Security.

My technical expertise in creating geographic information system datasets would be nothing without the hours of research gathering the information to visualize the data. In my future professional endeavors I believe it is essential that I continue to work within the capacity of a data researcher. For it is at this very basic level that the effectiveness of decisions based upon G.I.S. data is dependent.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I will contact your office within a week to answer any questions you may have regarding my skills. In the interim, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
